Where Azure Dominates

  • The Microsoft Ecosystem: If your enterprise runs heavily on Active Directory, Windows Server, SQL Server, and Microsoft 365, Azure is the logical choice. Entra ID (Azure AD) federation is seamless.
  • Hybrid Cloud: Azure Arc allows you to manage on-premise servers, edge devices, and even AWS instances from a single Azure control plane. This is critical for enterprises that cannot move fully to the public cloud due to data sovereignty.
  • Cost for Windows Workloads: Azure Hybrid Benefit allows you to bring your existing on-prem Windows Server and SQL Server licenses to Azure, routinely making Azure 40% cheaper than AWS for legacy Microsoft workloads.

The India Angle

For Indian enterprises specifically, Azure's regional footprint (Pune, Chennai, and the new Hyderabad region) plus Microsoft's $17.5B India investment commitment make data residency and latency planning materially easier than they were even two years ago. Combined with the dominance of Microsoft 365 and Dynamics in Indian mid-market IT, Azure is the default answer for Microsoft-stack organizations — while AWS remains the stronger pick for greenfield product engineering.

The Verdict

Don't fall for the multi-cloud hype unless you have a 500+ person engineering org. Pick one primary cloud based on your existing technical debt and team skills, and go deep.
